Texas aircraft helps CBP seize $12.5 million of cocaine in naval bust

An aircraft based in Corpus Christi helped U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials seize more than $12.5 million in cocaine from a panga boat south of Panama.

A P-3 Long Range Tracker — based at CBP's Office of Air and Marine's National Air Security Operations Center in Corpus Christi — spotted the boat Dec. 12 as alleged smugglers began dumping a large amount of narcotics in the water, a CBP news release said Friday.


Agents boarded the vessel and seized more than 167 pounds of cocaine, detainingd three individuals, the release said.


P-3s operating out of Corpus Christi have helped lead to the total seizure or disruption of 126,489 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $9.47 billion, according to the release.
