Around two dozen protesters have gathered outside a Chicago venue where President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak.

Obama is scheduled to attend three fundraisers tonight, including one at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Graduate student Tom Alter, 37, says he’s unhappy with continuing wars overseas and the high number of deportations of illegal immigrants. He chanted outside the university with other activists.

The self-described independent has been a member of the Occupy Chicago movement.

An anti-war protest was also planned near the university during Obama’s appearance.
