Dems Urge GOP to Halt Immigrant Prank

WASHINGTON (AP) -- National Democrats on Tuesday urged Republican Party chairman Mel Martinez to stop the independent College Republicans from holding "Catch an Illegal Immigrant" events around the country.
Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean and Ramona Martinez, chair of the Democratic National Committee's Hispanic caucus, sent a letter to the GOP chairman asking him to put a halt to the events.

"These despicable tactics have no place in our public discourse or on our college campuses," the letter said.

The game is a variation of hide and seek, with one player posing as an illegal immigrant and everyone else trying to find the person. The winner usually gets a prize.

Tracy Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said "we find these activities both egregious and offensive and condemn them wholeheartedly." But she noted the College Republicans are independent of the RNC: "We do not control their activities."

Democrats sent a similar letter to chairman Martinez's predecessor Ken Mehlman in September last year, noting that College Republicans were holding similar "catch an illegal immigrant" events in Pennsylvania and Texas. The RNC condemned the activities at the time.

The DNC noted that the game was recently played at New York University and drew several hundred students. Students at other colleges also have played the game.

Radio stations in NJ has been doing it too. It actually calls awareness to the problem in a lighthearted way. What does he have to say about 4000 Americans being killed by illegal aliens. By the way, it's AGAINST THE LAW TO BE HERE ILLEGALLY REP. MARTINEZ!!

Actually, it's the Young Conservatives that are doing that. But they are only trying to raise awareness! No different than marching in the streets.

Wonder why they are pleaing to Mel? Because he will listen?

Maybe as soon as the illegals stop playing their games of "see who can sneak in the USA", These games wouldn't exist if it wasn't so wide spread. And it seems as if our government doesn't find them here as being an issue.

Till then i don't see anything wrong with it, do you border crossers want to stop playing "see who can enter illegally"?

How can they find it offensive when they do this at the rate of how many a day?

How about the Democratic National Committee's Hispanic caucus stop these practices at our borders first, then we'll work on our games you find so offensive.

I'm so tired of all the whining about illegals being mistreated, I could spit! What a bunch of crybabies! Americans are supposed to just take all the hardship they impose on us!

Lets face it, It is a joke No one can find them but they are in Social Service offices everyday? Now we need a law to tell our kids what games they can play? Give me a break!
