PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona legislator says a proposed additional border fence could start going up sooner rather than later.
State Sen. Steve Smith said he's in contact with a fencing company about possible donation or sale at a low price of several miles of welded wire fencing.
The Arizona Capitol Times reports that the Maricopa Republican said construction of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border could start this year -- if the fencing is donated.
The state has a fundraising campaign under way to raise money for border fencing as a result of enactment of legislation sponsored by Smith.
