UTICA —

A 43-year-old Utica man was charged early Saturday morning for allegedly slicing the left side of his girlfriend’s face with a knife, according to Utica police.

Manual Carrasco, who has a child with the victim, allegedly pinned the victim in the corner of a room following an argument, pulled out a pocket knife and poked it into the victim’s stomach, police said.

Carrasco then held the knife to her throat and punched the left side of her face, police said. When Carrasco went to attack another family member, the victim intervened and was sliced on the left side of her face, police said.

As Carrasco tried to leave the scene in a pickup truck, an offer outside his vehicle attempted to stop Carrasco, who failed to comply and nearly struck the officer with the truck, police said.

Police later located Carrasco in the basement of his Utica residence, police said.

Carrasco was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, police said.

Carrasco also is known as David Carrasco and Emmanuel Santos, police said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on Carrasco due to him being a fugitive from justice – a deported felon, police said.
