Deported man admits illegally returning to U.S.
By ROBIN FITZGERALD

GULFPORT — A man banned from returning to the U.S. for five years admitted re-entering the country illegally before his arrest by Gulfport police.

Federal court records in Gulfport show Yudary Uriel Castillo-Chapa of Mexico claimed he waded across the Rio Grande near McAllen, Texas, in July 2009.

Castillo-Chapa had been deported May 2, 2005, and was banned from re-entering the U.S. for five years. He could have applied for permission to re-enter the country last week.

He has been in custody since March 1, when a patrol officer stopped a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta for following too closely on Interstate 10.

He has pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry after deportation but did not accept a plea agreement. He faces imprisonment at sentencing July 22.
