 Deputies seize $46,500
  ENTERPRISE STAFF REPORT
DAVIDSON COUNTY – Deputies say they stopped the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche be*cause it was tail-gating a car while heading south on Inter*state 85 near Lexington.
The driver of the car and his male passenger weren’t tick*eted, but they lost their ride and $46,500 worth of cash around 9 a.m. on July 11.
Deputies with the sheriff ’s Interstate Criminal Enforce*ment team found the money sealed in plastic wrap behind an interior panel as they searched the truck, Davidson County Sheriff David Grice said.
The search began when a sheriff ’s K-9 detected the odor of narcotics coming from the truck. The two men in the truck disclaimed any knowl*edge of the money, the sheriff said.
No drugs were found, but deputies called federal Immi*grations and Customs En*forcement officials and seized the items under federal asset forfeiture laws pending the outcome of an investigation, Grice said.
