Deputy Shot, 18-Wheeler Crashes in NW Houston

HOUSTON - In the northwest Houston community of Champion’s Crossing, there was no need to catch the cop shows on cable.

The real deal went down on the edge of their neighborhood Monday afternoon.

"We are all a little shaken, we are a little scared," resident Hamilton Russell said.

It happened just before 2 p.m. when an 18-wheel tanker truck came under a barrage of fire from moving vehicles clearly on the wrong side of the law.

That truck was thought to be carrying drugs and was under surveillance by a narcotics task force.

FOX 26 asked Harris County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Christina Garza whether investigators believe the incident was an attempted hijacking.
