UT: Immigration Crackdown Worries Local Hispanic Activist
Immigration Crackdown Worries Local Hispanic Activist
Aug 13, 2007 by Julie Rose
(KCPW News) Congress failed to pass immigration reform this year, so President Bush has announced his own plans to crack down on illegal immigrants. The proposal, unveiled Friday, boosts border security and calls for state and local police officers to enforce immigration laws.
With the total crackdown they're going to do, it's going to break our families apart," says Tony Yapias, founder of the Utah Latino Project.
Yapias says many local Hispanics are disappointed that President Bush is calling for the enforcement crackdown rather than waiting for Congress to pass full reform. The crackdown also includes tougher scrutiny for employers who hire undocumented workers. Yapias says the changes will have serious consequences on immigrants already established in Utah and contributing to the local economy:
"If someone was just coming in new for the first time, the consequences of the crackdown may not be as severe as for someone who has a career, family, a job, a car payment and has established themselves in the community," says Yapias. "It will create all kinds of ripple effects."
Yapias says local immigration activists may organize a march or demonstration in the coming weeks to oppose the enforcement crackdown. Congress is unlikely to address comprehensive immigration reform again until after the 2008 election.

Illegals don't contribute to the economy they drain it. Become legal then you can argue that point.( STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT EMPLOYMENT - BOYCOTT FIELDALE FARMS, PILGRIMS PRIDE & TYSON POULTRY )

It constantly amazes me how these pro-illegal forces use the catch phrase "comprehensive reform," or in this case "full reform."
Too many people now know that "reform" equates to "amnesty," and that "reform" is not reform in any sense.

[b]With the total crackdown they're going to do, it's going to break our families apart," says Tony Yapias, founder of the Utah Latino Project.
Tony, you say "our" families.....are you here legally? I'd like to know because if your Latino Project is, in any way, funded by my tax dollars, I need to fire you.
already established in Utah and contributing to the local economy:
I've got news for these people........transients can "establish" themselves in an abandoned building but that doesn't mean they have any right to be there and so it goes for illegals. Secondly, they need to stop talking about the "contributions" these people have made to our economy, and society in general, like it's a good thing. If the illegals have contributed to anything, they've contributed to the downward spiral.
someone who has a career, family, a job, a car payment and has established themselves in the community," says Yapias. "It will create all kinds of ripple effects."
Still not getting it are they? Illegal aliens have no business coming here and establishing careers, families, or anything else. That career or job is a living they have denied an American citizen or legal immigrant. That "family" is comprised of anchor babies which we pay for and are born for the sole purpose of being used as a shield, and to pad the benefits entitlements so they can make those car payments of theirs.
You bet the crackdowns will have all kinds of ripple effects: Illegals will self deport which is already in progress....they just need to step it up some. Americans will get their jobs back at decent wages with affordable benefits. We'll save bundles of money not funding a lifestyle for illegals. Our schools and hospitals will recover. Our neighborhoods and downtown areas will lose that "3rd World Charm".
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm rather looking forward to all those ripple effectsJoin our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Does 'establishing' oneself mean 'all is forgiven'?
I always wonder why they think that makes a difference.
Does any other crime get a pass when a person uses his/her ill gotten gains to 'establish' oneself? That's probably good news to bank robbers, former drug dealers, embezzlers, etc., if it became the norm.
This is a crime - in fact an illegal who has 'established him/herself' has committed a series of crimes. They didn't just set foot here and then stand still - they impacted this country, our laws, the livelihood, the health, the properity of the American people.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
