DHS: MEXICAN DRUG CARTEL TARGETING US LAW ENFORCEMENT

The disturbing news was forwarded to me by an old friend and former high-ranking official on Capitol Hill with whom I have worked on a number of immigration-related issues.

The news report- as you will see when you read it, addresses the vicious murder, several weeks ago, of two American women who worked at the American Consulate in Juarez, Mexico and the husband of one of the women, an official who worked for the El Paso Sheriff's office. Additionally, one of the women who were killed was pregnant. http://www.homelandsecuritynewswire.com ... nforcement

Shortly after this outrageous crime I was asked to appear on MSNBC to talk about the murders of these American officials in Mexico. I was asked if I thought that the murders may have been a case of mistaken identity and I raised the possibility that the murders may have been intentionally carried out because the women might not have been willing to do the bidding of drug traffickers. According to the article and other news reports I have read, the motivation for the brutal murders was the treatment of members of the Azteca drug gang members in American jails.

The murders of those Americans was clearly a shot fired across the bow of the United States of America!

On the same MSNBC program I also noted that in the United States organized crime had traditionally shied away from killing law enforcement officers and government officials because they feared that they would be, in effect, calling in an air strike on their own position- that law enforcement agencies in the United States would go after the criminals if police officers or federal agents were killed by the criminals. In Mexico, the precise opposite is the case. In point of fact, the police, high ranking government officials and even the military is targeted by the drug cartels.

The article makes the same points.

I also have been greatly concerned about the fact that as more members of the drug cartels from Mexico and other countries gain access to our nation, the lives of our citizens and the lives of our law enforcement officers and high ranking government officials may also be endangered by members of the cartel who have managed to run our nation's borders and are now operating in our country.

Consider this excerpt from the article:

This anarchic violence is now spilling into the United States.

FOXNews.com’s Joshua Rhett Miller reports that law enforcement officers in west Texas are on guard following an alert issued by DHS warning of retaliatory killings for a recent crackdown on the Barrio Azteca gang.

David Cuthbertson, special agent in charge of the FBI’s El Paso division, said the paramilitary-style gang has an “open policyâ€
