The percentage of Hispanic inmates booked into the Napa County jail is higher than the percentage of Latino residents living in the county, according to 2009-2010 data obtained from the jail and the 2010 United States Census.

In total, 2,363 Latinos were booked into Napa County jail in the 2009-2010 fiscal year, making up 35.7 percent of arrested inmates, compared to 32.2 percent Latinos living in the county, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.

There were 3,541 β€” or 53.6 percent β€” white inmates, compared to a 56.4 percent white population.

Local crime experts had varying explanations for the disparity.
