Over the years, Democrats and Republicans alike have failed to effectively secure our borders and enforce our existing immigration laws, leading to an illegal immigration crisis that must be addressed.



As a member of the House Border Security Caucus, I’ve traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border region, spoken with Customs and Border Patrol Agents, and surveyed our border security challenges with my own eyes. I am committed to giving law enforcement the tools needed to stop illegal immigration and thwarting efforts to grant amnesty to those who are already here illegally.



In Congress, I was a vocal opponent of S. 744, the so-called “Gang of 8” Senate amnesty bill. I additionally worked to promote conservative alternatives such as The SMART Border Act—legislation I co-authored holding the Department of Homeland Security accountable for achieving control of the US – Mexico border territory and authorizing the use of up to 10,000 National Guard troops to assist in border security efforts when needed.


Recognizing the threat that sanctuary cities pose to our safety and our national security, I introduced the Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act, legislation to cut off funds to these localities that flout federal immigration law. I am additionally a cosponsor of Kate’s Law, a bill introduced in the wake of Kate Steinle’s tragic murder in San Francisco that would impose a mandatory five-year prison sentence on felons caught trying to re-enter the U.S. after being deported.


I am proud that my work to stop amnesty, secure the border, and defund sanctuary cities has earned me a rare A+ lifetime rating from the conservative anti-illegal immigration group NumbersUSA.
