Lou Dobbs Tonight
Wednesday July 23, 2008

Tonight, should the federal government be paying for healthcare
for illegal aliens? One group is proposing that the Democratic
Party adopt that policy as part of its official platform. Plus:

* Consumers groups are calling for Congress to pass a bill
granting the Consumer Product Safety Commission authority to
police imports and ban lead in toys. Despite industry promises
last year to solve the problems, the number of recalls is up 22
percent so far this year.

* Within the resource-strapped Food and Drug Administration,
there is a separate federal police agency called the Office of
Criminal Investigations. The director makes more than the head
of the FBI or the FDA Commissioner. More than 200 people work
in this seldom discussed office, most of them are
investigators, but lawmakers are not satisfied that OCI can
account for its investigative accomplishments.

* Edwin Ramos was in court today to enter his plea for killing
a father and two sons on a San Francisco street last month.
Ramos is one of the illegal alien youths who benefited from the
city's long-standing practice of shielding illegal immigrant
juveniles. Ramos, now 21, was arrested on two felony charges as
a juvenile the city never alerted federal immigration
authorities.

* The Joint Economic Committee is meeting today about the
soaring costs American families are facing. Childcare costs
have soared along with food and energy bills. Americans are
more deeply in debt today than they were in 2000 and 10 percent
of their disposable income is going to paying down that debt.
