2,200 Illegals Sponged Off Food Stamps For Years Until...

    July 12th, 2010 @ 10:57am
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Food pantries are seeing a rise in demand after a rules change in Utah cut some 2,200 families with undocumented immigrants from state food stamp rolls.

A computer-based eligibility system that began July 1 has state officials now counting income from all members of a household when determining food stamp eligibility.

State officials say another 8,000 more households may qualify for fewer food stamps under the new program.

A state Department of Workforce Services spokesman says the idea is to make applications and calculations fair for everyone.

But Hildegarde's Pantry chief Lydia Herrera at St. Mark's Cathedral in Salt Lake City is among those who say the change has led to confusion for some families with illegal immigrants.

They wonder if Americans are getting preference over them.

Comment: No kidding? Americans over illegals? Duh, let's see...hmmm

At the beginning of July, more than 2,000 families with undocumented immigrants stopped receiving food stamp benefits due to a change in Utah’s rules. Now a growing number of them are showing up at emergency food pantries confused and needing help.

I further suspect that many times more than one illegal families live in one household and pool resources, thereby qualifying for food stamps even though their combined income would disqualify them.

The illegal mother of five is pretty typical for my town. They have American babies so they can collect welfare and food stamps on behalf of their citizen children.

Amazing, isn't it? Where is the article about American families needing food stamps?

Utah seems to pass laws that appear to combat illegal immigration but leave loopholes where illegals can keep on doing what they're doing, undisturbed.

The VA has to set up charities for veterans and their families to get needs met that there is no budget for and millions of people are finding the cost of everything going up when their monthly income is not - everybody is having a food and Rx and housing problem.

At one of the local food pantries you are required to show a state ID card or driving license, plus proof of all your income, plus a lease showing you are a resident. In this case, I guess Americans ARE getting the preference!!

Interesting. I thought it was uniform nationwide. I think that here in AZ they only ask citizens for that stuff but illegals just flat out get it. But often the citizen is denied after providing that information as if the proof of citizenship was the reason for denial. Also I thought that they all want your social security number too which was why I thought that Bush's faith based giving was part of putting the mark of the beast on churches - because they have to take the social security number and what is really insane is that they might give one grocery bag of mismatched food items and then tell you that you cannot come back for another 6 months! Plus out here everything is spread very far apart and you have to have a car to go get your 1 stupid bag of stale mismatched groceries every 6 months. You must have a loyal friend with car to take you.

At my local supermarket I took my own cooler in recently because it is so hot that it is smart to just put the groceries in the cooler for the ride home. The manager apologized about having to inspect my cooler for stolen goods - well they just had a long-time customer try to walk out of the store with a few hundred dollars worth of groceries - same situation as above and got to eat!

Yes, Sarum, that food pantry is question is linked to the local men's mission house. The person running it calls himself "Pastor" although I don't know if he is ordained or not. You are only allowed one trip per month to each food pantry. This particular pantry claims they need all this ID, and YES your social security number, because there are several "women" running around town trying to scam the system.
