Dole wants DWIs tied to immigrants' legal status

    From Staff Reports

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole wants to ensure that illegal immigrants convicted of driving while impaired can not receive legal status.

Dole called for more amendments to be considered in the Senate debate of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act tonight on the Senate floor.

Dole's amendment would also penalize legal visa holders convicted of more than one DWI by making it a deportable offense.

Dole opposes the overall immigration bill.

In her Senate speech, Dole referred Monday's crash on Interstate 40 as an example of why such an amendment is needed.

An illegal immigrant from Mexico is charged with a DWI and felony death by motor vehicle after a Monday crash that killed a Cary man.

    nice try

    good effort Dole

But what about giving them nothing? Why should they be allowed one DUI?

    What is the logic?

Having lived abroad for 12 years, Asia and the Middle East, I can tell you, fellow countrymen, other countries DO NOT put up with this crap!!!!!!

I have been so pleasantly surprised by Dole.

Awesome move. Make them vote this down and we will have ANOTHER tool against this bill!

    Me, too, Sam.

Looks like Liddy wants to go back to DC in 2008.
