Driver arrested after crash that killed mother of seven

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Police have arrested the man suspected of driving drunk and causing a multi-vehicle crash that killed a mother of seven from Dayton last weekend.

A car crossed over the median on Highway 99 hitting two vehicles and killing one woman.

Senior Trooper Mark McDougal arrested 26-year-old Leonel Zurita Loeza of Portland on charges of assault, manslaughter, criminal mischief, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Investigators say Loeza was driving a car that crossed a center grass median on Highway 99W between Dundee and Newberg and struck a vehicle driven by 52-year-old Carma Smith, a mother of seven.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

After Loeza’s car hit Smith’s vehicle, it crashed into a southbound Toyota Corolla with four people inside. None of the Corolla’s occupants were hurt.

Everyone in Loeza's vehicle was seriously injured. Both Loeza and passenger, Izquierdo Jonathan, 21, were taken to OHSU by Life Flight. A second passenger, Nicholas Contreras, 31, was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Loeza was booked in the Yamhill County Jail after he was released from Legacy Emanuel Hospital. Investigators believe alcohol and speed contributed to the crash.

As you may note in the story above, there is no mention of the perp's legal status. I have searched all the local media (well, I thought...) and wasn't able to uncover ANY information about the subject at all. Seems that the local MSM media is doing tighter control on such things lately.

However, I received the following email from OFIR this evening. In it, the writer claims that the perp has an immigration hold on him. So, for me, that is probably sufficient enough to include the above post in normal News discussion group.

The weather is finally turning good. A far better environment to be outside collecting signatures. The Portland Zoo, sporting events and other outdoor activities are all good possibilities.

In Yamhill County there has been a series of accidents involving drunk driving illegal aliens and American citizens. On May 6th an illegal alien was sentenced to a 15-year jail term for the death of Ann Cox. After serving his sentence he then will be turned over to ICE for deportation. The illegal alien, Ignacio Mercendon-Zerega, had 6 previous DUI’s.

This past Sunday, on mothers Day, a Dayton Women, Carma Smith,
was killed when a car driven by Leonel Zurita-Loeza, crossed the grass center median and crashed into hers. Zurita-Loreza has an ICE hold on him.

Representative Steve King, (R-Iowa), in a speech to the U.S. House of Representatives on May 3, 2006, estimated that on average 13 people are killed each day by a drunk driving illegal alien in the U.S. That amounts over 4000 a year.

Lets get the Respect for Law Act on the November ballot!

Most states do not record or post the nationality of the perpetrator.

While I know there are a few, off hand, I can only think of NC that does.

Often this information, especially in more liberal states, won't come out until well after the crime was committed, sometimes all the way up to sentencing when we then learn ICE has a hold on the perp.

I knew I had seen that VOIC website before!! Couldn't remember the name. Great job keeping track of the crimes commited by illegals. Do you also have this website info..if yes, sorry for posting, if not, then maybe it can provide more info for your database.

Hopefully, Oregon's clamp down on driver licenses will help this problem. But, there is definitely a cultural difference with many of the illegals (south of the border mostly) in regards to drinking and driving and also with sexual encounters of younger children. We have enough criminals in this society, sure don't need to add these illegals into the mix.
