Driver found and arrested after I-95 rollover crash

HOLLYWOOD —
The driver who survived a rollover accident off Interstate 95 on Friday and then fled has been found and arrested.

The accident occurred around 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 south of the Sheridan Street exit, according to Sgt. Mark Wysocky of the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 1997 Ford Expedition, driven by Jose Toledo, 30, rear-ended a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo causing the Expedition to veer off the highway and flip over, Wysocky said. When authorities arrived, the overturned vehicle's driver was not there and a search was launched.

Troopers and a helicopter pilot from the Broward Sheriff's Office searched the surrounding area, including a small body of water and a golf course, Wysocky said.

By Friday afternoon, investigators contacted Toledo at an address in Fort Lauderdale, interviewed him and arrested him.

His charges include failure to use due care, failure to immediately report a crash, attaching a tag not assigned to that vehicle, having no valid driver's license and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and injuries.

The Isuzu Rodeo's driver, Pierre Frankel, 43, and passenger Lamercie Louis, 47, were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood for treatment of minor injuries.
