The federal government will seek to deport more than half the 104 Korean women who were detained in an investigation into suspected brothels engaged in human trafficking, authorities said Tuesday.

The women were detained when authorities raided 10 massage parlors in San Francisco and one in Emeryville on June 30 and July 1. Authorities arrested 27 people for allegedly bringing the women into the country illegally and putting them to work as prostitutes.

Fifty-nine of the women came here willingly and will face deportation proceedings, said Chuck DeMore, special agent in charge of the Northern California investigative arm of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The rest of the women are considered either victims or material witnesses who may be allowed to stay, at least for the course of the case, DeMore said.
