Perhaps someone in NE can keep us up dated ?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seward County, NE authorities have recovered approximately three pounds of suspected brown heroin with an estimated street value of between $400,000 and $700,000. The illegal drugs were seized from a vehicle that stopped at the Speedee Mart service station at the Seward Interchange along I-80 on December 29th.

The suspected drugs were seized after a Seward County deputy engaged the driver of the 2006 Dodge Magnum bearing New York license plates. The deputy was stopped at the service station at the same time and began talking with the driver about his travels during the holidays. Later, the driver gave the deputy permission to search the Dodge and the deputy deployed his K-9 to assist in the search. The K-9 indicated the presence of drugs in the interior of the vehicle and the suspected package of heroin was discovered concealed behind the glove box.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 22 year-old Renee Vargas of Rewood City, CA. A passenger in the vehicle with Vargas was identified as 34 year-old Santiago Lopez Mendoza. Mendoza initially stated that he resides in Manhattan, NY but follow-up investigation indicates that he may be in the United States illegally from Mexico.

Both subjects were taken into custody and are charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and No Drug Tax Stamp. Both were booked and lodged at the Seward County Detention Center. Bond for the two men has been set at $250,000 for each. The may have a court appearance later today depending on the court schedule.

The Seward County Sheriff's Office was assisted by agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration as well as officials with the United States Marshal's Service. Seward authorities continue to investigate the circumstances associated with these individuals and the suspected drugs seized in connection with this case.
