Drug Leader to Stand Trial for San Fernando Massacre

MEXICO - A Mexican drug gang leader accused of masterminding the murder of hundreds of immigrants in Tamaulipas will stand trial.

A Mexican judge has ordered Martin Estrada Luna and three other men be tried in the state of Veracruz. Estrada Luna was arrested in April.

Investigators say he was behind the mass murder of 72 migrants last August and 193 people months in San Fernando, located about 70 miles from Brownsville.

The 34-year-old was believed to be the head of a Zeta drug cartel. He was born in Mexico but grew up in the US. He was deported to Mexico in 2009.
