RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -A man accused of driving drunk and killing a Richmond Times-Dispatch carrier in South Hill has plead guilty.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that 30-year-old Santos Gabriel-Tomas is charged with killing 61-year-old Maxey Ann Lynch.

According to the paper, the illegal immigrant had been convicted of DUI in March of 2012, and he never had a Virginia driver's license.

Lynch's husband was also delivering papers the day he spotted the man driving the wrong way, but he never reported it.

On Friday, Santos Gabriel-Tomas, 30, pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI manslaughter, DUI second offense and driving without an operator’s license in Mecklenburg County Circuit Court.
Around 2:18 a.m. on April 7, Gabriel-Tomas crashed into a 1999 Ford Escort being driven by Maxey Ann Lynch, 61, as she was just starting her morning newspaper deliveries.
The Guatemalan national was driving in the wrong direction on U.S. 58 and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.19 percent (more than twice the state's legal limit).
Lynch was later pronounced dead at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.
    The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported:
[Gabriel-Tomas] was convicted in March 2012 of driving under the influence of alcohol in neighboring Lunenburg County. He had never acquired a license to drive, but a judge in the earlier case revoked his privileges to obtain a license for 12 months as part of his punishment, Mecklenburg County Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Allen Nash said.
Of course, the Obama administration does not deport illegal aliens for driving under the influence, until they have acquired at least three offenses.
Furthermore, in April 2012, the New York Times reported that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, under Obama would no longer issue detainers on illegal aliens who had only been charged with traffic violations.
    The Times article read:
Under the refinement, when illegal immigrants are arrested solely for traffic offenses and do not have a prior criminal record, federal agents will only consider placing a hold — known as a detainer — after they are convicted.
“ICE agrees that enforcement action based solely on a charge for a minor traffic offense is generally not an efficient use of government resources,” the department response says.
    [...]
In practice, most traffic violators are released well before they are convicted, and now immigrants stopped by traffic police will not remain in custody to be picked up by federal agents.
So, there you have it, another American has been killed as a direct result of President Obama's disregard for our immigration laws.
How many more citizens have to die before we have a federal government willing to simply enforce the laws we now have on the books?
It is not our immigration system that is 'broken,' but the spines of our politicians...

Exactly! Are deaths such as this considered acceptable for what our ruling class considers 'The Greater Good'?

I don't understand why these families haven't sued the Obama administration and Janet Napolitano specifically.
