U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized more than $1 million in cocaine and arrested a Matamoros man, authorities said.

Daniel Moreno, 20, was arrested Wednesday evening at B&M International Bridge by CBP officers and later charged by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and with conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute, court records show.

On Thursday morning, Moreno went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan who denied him bond and remanded him to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

According to a CBP press release, the seizure took place when a 1999 black Ford F-150 pulled up to an immigration checkpoint and was referred to a secondary inspection area.

Court records identify Moreno as the driver of the pickup.

At the inspection area, CBP officers found 16 packages of cocaine weighing approximately 31.4 pounds hidden in the dashboard area, the release said. The street value of the cocaine as estimated at $1,004,800.
