Dulles CBP Arrests Undocumented Alien Wanted for Assault
(Monday, May 03, 2010)
Sterling, Va., - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended a man with an arrest warrant at Washington-Dulles International Airport on Saturday.
Juan Andres Deceano Salas, a 27-year-old Mexican citizen, attempted to travel to Cancun, Mexico; but was prevented from departing the United States after CBP officers discovered he was wanted for assault, battery and destruction of property.
The man was initially arrested on December 25, 2009 for assaulting a family member and a police officer. He was scheduled to appear in a Fairfax County court in March but failed to do so, resulting in an outstanding arrest warrant.
CBP has no record of Deceano Salas being legally admitted into the U.S. According to the Immigration and Nationality Act, entering the United States without inspection is grounds for expedited removal.
“CBP officers thoroughly review passenger manifests during inbound and outbound inspections,“ said Christopher Hess, port director, Port of Washington-Dulles. “In this case, our meticulous research allowed us to stop someone with a criminal history who was potentially trying to flee justice.â€NO AMNESTY
