E-Verify alternative proposed in House
NEI SmartBrief | 04/27/2009

A bill introduced in the House this week would require employers to use the Electronic Employment Verification System -- used in states for child-support enforcement -- instead of the federal E-Verify system. Opponents of E-Verify say its error rate is too high, causing people to be wrongly classified as ineligible to work in the U.S. The bill is backed by the Society of Human Resource Management, as well as the HR Policy Association and the National Association of Manufacturers.
