    Early success on border cited
U.S. agents seizing thousands of guns, millions in cash
By STEWART M. POWELL WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON — Homeland security chief Janet Napolitano is claiming early success for the Obama administration’s border crackdown on southbound smuggling of firearms and drug proceeds to Mexican drug cartels, citing a threefold increase in weapons’ seizures and a twofold increase in bulk cash seizures.

The secretary of homeland security produced the score card three months into the administration’s surge of at least 360 additional federal law enforcement personnel to the southwest border with Mexico. They are tasked with choking off cartels’ access to the guns and cash that have contributed to the gangland warfare that has claimed thousands of lives in Mexico since late 2006.

Napolitano described the gains as she signed a deal with Mexican Finance Minister Agustin Carstens to deepen U.S.-Mexican cooperation on customs inspections even more. “As we bolster our efforts at the border, we are achieving significant results,â€

Oh that's really great for Mexico, Janet. Now how about increasing the traffic we're paying to increase and that's Southbound Illegal Alien Traffic? That's what we're paying you to do, you know, "head 'em up, move 'em out".

Actually it's northbound illegal alien traffic we want stopped.

Isn't it the ATFs job to deal with gun-runners (smugglers) and the DEAs job to deal with drug smugglers?

Along the border CBP does it all.

Well, yes of course we want the northbound illegal alien traffic stopped, but this story was about the southbound lanes which need to be filled with the southern entry portion of our 20 million to 30 million illegal aliens going home. When we fill those southbound lanes with the ones who have already violated our laws, then the northbound lanes will empty out as people wanting to enter our country illegally wave at their friends in the southbound lanes and ask "what happened" and they reply "we've been deported" and the northbounders ask "What's the point of paying smugglers thousands of dollars to sneak me into the US only to end up being deported?" And the answer is: "There is no point, so turn around, save your money, go back home, enjoy your family in your own country, spend your Coyote money on your family, start a business, fix up your house, build a new house, get a job, buy some land, farm, work, earn, pass mininum wage laws, form a union, join a union, buy some birth control pills, start a revolution, whatever you need to do to realize your dreams in your own country. Because whatever you thought you could do here, you can do there also."

I know they do, but my question is why? I have actually heard of DEA agents working uncover in Mexico and along the border. Has this stopped or are their operations more hush-hush?

DEA is no longer allowed into Mexico. This goes back to when the one agent was caught and killed down there years back but more so with a screw up on the US side with agent working lllegally down there working a drug/ money laundering scheme. Janet Reno signed some papers that put a stop to a lot of this and got a lot of good peopled killed in doing so. The Meridian Initiative. She's also the reason we pay all this money to Mexico to help them fight their drug war.
Most of what goes on is not made public, not to keep us in the dark and wonder what's going on but to protect the agents envolved.
All of our agents have a price on their heads, even their families are at risk so it should come as no surprise that we hear little of what they do.
All LE agenies have an outline as to what they do and they all keep things to themselves to protect themselves and their families. This is hard for the general public to understand but the threat is real and good agents have died!
