Eastern Connecticut residents to head to D.C. for immigration rally
Norwich Bulletin

NORWICH -- Clergy, religious and lay leaders will board buses Monday afternoon and head for the nation's capital to participate in the "Mobilization for Immigrant Families and Children" rally Tuesday.

The event includes an interfaith prayer service at the Metropolitan AME Zion Church, a march to the White House and afternoon visits with Connecticut's Congressional delegation.

About 2,500 people are expected to participate in the rally.

The Catholic Diocese of Norwich and United Action of Connecticut will lead the group from Connecticut. Both organizations seek an end to the type of raids recently carried out in New Haven by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, as well as immigration reform that values the dignity of human beings.

The bus will leave at 3 p.m. Monday from St. Mary Catholic Church in Norwich and stop at 3:30 p.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in New London to pick up more passengers.

There are a few seats left on the bus. Anyone interested in making the trip can call the office for Hispanic ministry at the Catholic Diocese at 456-3349 or United Action at 882-3849.
