Son of U.S. representative busted for smuggling IAs

Son of U.S. representative from Florida accused of smuggling illegal immigrants
By Alex Leary, Times Staff Writer
In print: Wednesday, September 17, 2008

The son of U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd, a Panhandle Democrat, is facing federal charges of smuggling illegal immigrants after being stopped by Border Patrol agents in Arizona.

John F. Boyd, 30, admitted picking up the passengers in the desert, authorities said. He was stopped Sunday at a border checkpoint near Willcox and a search dog indicated people might be hiding in the bed of the white Ford pickup he was driving.

Agents found two people under a piece of plywood, according to a federal complaint, and two more adults lying on the floorboard behind the front seat. A 6-year-old girl was in the passenger seat.

Methamphetamine and a loaded Beretta pistol were found, according to the complaint. It did not indicate who the items belonged to and no drug or weapons charges have been filed against Boyd. He has a preliminary hearing this morning in Tucson.

"This is an ongoing investigation," said Sandy Raynor, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona.

Boyd acknowledged he knew the group had entered the United States illegally, the complaint stated.

Two members of the group told border agents they walked into the United States and waited at a trailer for two days until they were picked up.

They said they were going to pay $3,000 to be taken to their final destination, according to the complaint. The girl's parents were already in the country and, after being contacted by authorities, they picked her up.

The Democratic congressman, who is seeking a seventh term this November, said in a statement: "This is a family matter that my family and I will be dealing with privately. John is a grown man and must face the consequences for his actions, but he has the love and support of his family."

Boyd, an influential leader of the conservative Blue Dog Democrats in Congress, is being challenged by Panama City Republican Mark Mulligan.

This should be used to get the father to sign the discharge petition.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The 6-year-old was not related to Boyd, and her parents were located and they were reunited, the complaint said.

WHY aren't these idiot parents taught a lesson (start doing this and watch how fast these people stop bringing there kids here)? WHY are they always "reunited"? It didn't say they were reunited in Mexico. She was being brought to the US so I assume the "parents" were here? This is child neglect. They allowed a man (did they know for a fact he isn't a pedophile and doesn't know any pedophiles? Did they have proof he wouldn't hand her over to someone else who would happily sell her for a few bucks?) She was found in a vehicle, unaccompanied by an adult other than the other illegals being smuggled, and the smuggler, that had drugs and weapons in it. So WHY WASN'T CPS CALLED? Law enforcement is supposed to call CPS when they see a child being neglected and/or abused. Law enforcement personnel are mandatory reporters, aren't they? They didn't mention where the happy family was reunited (family values?) or what the parents names were, so I can't call CPS and turn them in (CPS must investigate every call) but law enforcement should, every single time a smuggler is caught with a child under 18. CPS would then be able to force these idiots to get a ton of counseling, parenting classes, drug tests (at least until they can prove they don't use drugs and don't drop dirty for alcohol - yes, CPS can tell even non alcoholic parents not to drink alcohol, which may be a problem for some of these people), psychological evaluations, etc along with supervised visits if they are lucky twice a week for an hour each, and possibly unsupervised months later, after most of their "case plan" is complete. But here's the catch - they would also have to resolve any "legal issues". Being an illegal alien is a "legal issue". That means the parents would have to become legal before they could get the kid back. That just won't happen. So, why would they bring the kid here, knowing this could happen? That's why CPS should be called every single time. If anyone that was "at the scene" when the kid is found is a mandatory abuse/neglect reporter and didn't call CPS, they should be face the consequences. Americans lose their kids, why shouldn't the illegals? Thousands of kids in the US are in foster care, many not because they were actually physically/sexually abused, but because they were in a situation where it was possible that it could happen in the future. So why should these "law abiding, family loving, I'd do anything for my children's future" illegals not be held accountable. Would YOU allow a stranger to take your 6 year old daughter even down the street in his beat up old truck? How about handing your one year old son to a woman you've never seen before? (Are you sure she isn't looking for a child to raise herself and willing to kidnap someone else's kid?) Illegals in AZ do this every day, and I've never heard of CPS doing anything about it, the kids just get handed back to the same people who put their lives at risk, without the illegal having to do one thing to prove they won't endanger their kid again, without the illegal being forced to leave the country because they can't "resolve their legal problems", without the illegal being made to pay child support (to CPS) while their kids are in foster care, they just get away with it. Why are illegals treated like they are better than Americans? As things are done now, illegals are being "told", indirectly, that if their minor child is caught while with a smuggler, they will not only get the kid faster (no waiting in the drop house while the smuggler demands higher and higher amounts of cash for the kid's safe return), but they won't have to pay the smuggler at the drop off point. The way it should go is the kid goes to foster care, the parents are made to jump through hoops, made to pay (not with food stamps or cash assistance the kid would normally be getting with the Social Security card/birth certificate dad just bought on the corner for $50 - $75) child support to the State of AZ (or TX or CA - whichever border the kid was found at) and when the parents can't become citizens when their year to resolve the problems that brought the kid into CPS custody is up, the child should be freed for adoption. Then CPS could get their huge bonus from the US gov't (they get tens of thousands for placing kids in foster care, then more when the kid is "adoptable" after parents rights are severed). Legal citizens won't have to pay thousands to adopt from foreign countries. And illegals will stop having their kids smuggled over here when the word gets out. They put the kids at a huge risk for death, kidnapping, abuse, neglect, rape etc, and CPS shouldn't allow it, and law enforcement shouldn't be allowed to choose not to report it. If they don't report the illegal alien parents' names, then they should report it themselves. Abuse/neglect doesn't have to happen before it is reported, the parents just have to allow something to happen that could put the child at risk (of abuse, neglect, in a life-threatening situation, such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, hypothermia, the possibility that Border Patrol might chase the smuggler's vehicle, not knowing a child was in it because the kid is under the floor board or under the seat, and the vehicle might flip, etc). You or I would lose our children. Why shouldn't illegals be treated the same? That is what they want, isn't it?
