You may remember Marvin Medina, who was caught lying on the stand last year at the preliminary hearing for Edwin Ramos, a reputed MS-13 gang member who prosecutors say gunned down a father and two sons on a San Francisco street in 2008 after mistaking them for gang rivals.

Medina, 23, was shot earlier the day of the triple killings, June 22, 2008. Prosecutors theorize it was that shooting that prompted MS-13 members to go gunning for revenge.

Medina got himself in hot water on the stand when he said he had met Ramos only once and denied being an MS-13 member. Trouble was, he had a large "MS" tattoo on his back.

Prosecutors had other evidence as well, including the testimony of Medina's ex-girlfriend, who recalled how Medina had called Ramos "my homeboy.'' They charged him with perjury and threw him in jail.

In a deal with prosecutors, Medina pleaded guilty last month to three perjury counts, and on Tuesday he was sentenced to time served and probation. He will remain in custody, at least until a hearing on his status Friday.

He is now expected to testify -- this time telling the truth, prosecutors hope -- when Ramos' murder trial gets under way, possibly this fall.

Any testimony in the future he might give is impeachable by his prior record of perjury. He's not worth a plug nickle to the prosecution, but one could hope that they'll put him on the stand anyway and then put him on the street where his homies will liquidate him.
