— Nearly 87 people — plus children — held an 8 p.m. vigil Thursday on Parker Drive to draw attention that they and others have not received paychecks from Howard Industries since the immigration raid at the facility on Aug. 25.
Many of those present were former employees who were taken into custody by Immunization and Customs Enforcement agents for being in the country illegally, and others were family members. The Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance (MIRA) organized the protest.
Some carried signs demanding release of approximately 210 checks totaling roughly $200,000. Other signs urged the company to pay its workers. MIRA also claims that Howard Industries is holding personal items such as wallets, purses, passports, ID cards, jewelry, etc.
