A Mexican citizen arrested in Hayden on charges of first-degree assault remains in custody in the Routt County Jail on a hold from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The next hearing for the case against the 45-year-old man is scheduled for 3 p.m. April 29 in Routt County District Court.

Deputy District Attorney Carl Stahl said the case is proceeding and that detectives are continuing the investigation.

The man, who is not being named to protect the identity of his victim, was arrested April 1 after Hayden Police Department officers responded to a call at 3:50 a.m. reporting ongoing domestic violence.

Officers used a Taser to subdue the man, and both he and his victim were transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center. Hayden Police Chief Ray Birch said the man was charged with first-degree assault because medical workers and officers on the scene considered the injuries to the woman “serious bodily harm.â€
