Employers say immigrants fill needed Louisville jobs even in tough economy

For more than a decade, Jose Martin Cruz Del Porte says, he earned $10 an hour pouring concrete for homebuilders in and around Louisville.

But after an arrest in LaGrange on misdemeanor harassment charges that were later dropped, Del Porte, 40, was found to be in the country illegally.

By June, he has agreed to relocate to his native Chiapas, Mexico.

Del Porte leaves behind an estimated 50,000 workers in Kentucky who are here illegally, often earning less than $10 an hour, clearing restaurant tables, tending to racehorses and other jobs that employers say are hard to fill even in a weak economy.

Employers say they have little choice but to bring on immigrant workers when filling positions.

Why do they need his agreement?

The more Kentucky is opened to attracting the ILLEGALS while other states are initiating laws to protect their Citizens from the ILLEGALS the more the ILLEGALS will scurry to Kentucky and the more the cost of the ILLEGALS will increase except for the ILLEGAL EMPLOYERS, Special Interest Groups, and the Political Contributors who expect the Citizen Taxpayers to pay for the above benefits for their ILLEGALS while they fatten their bottom line.

Man this crap makes me livid, and if I was a drinking woman I'd be slamming one down even if it is right before I go to work...LOL!

As someone who works in the racing industry I can tell you a lot! And I can debunk a lot of what is said here!
Asked how pervasive the presence of undocumented workers is in the horse racing industry, Switzer declined to comment. But he added that openings for stable hands, grooms and night watchmen are extremely difficult to fill.
Ask why those jobs are now hard to fill! Because of the illegal invaders you chose to replace Americans with! When I started out in this business we used to be FAMILY. Horse crazy young girls used to be grooms, hotwalkers, stable hands... and this was encouraged! Parents who really couldn't afford a horse encouraged their daughters, it taught them responsibilty and if the parents could afford a horse it gave them the chance to see if that daughter was dedicated enough to put in the work owning a horse entails.

But that was back in the 80's. Now, as a woman I go nowhere on the backstretch alone, I always have a male escort. This coming from a woman who stands 6'1", and has been man-handling horses all my life; but I have very little experience with knives and guns in a fight. I was threatened with a knife one time, and I learned my lesson!

What Mr. Switzer leaves out is we don't want to deal with the violence those illegals brought with them! They steal from one another, they beat each other up, they rape and they murder! Call me "soft", but I value my life.

These employers are lying sacks of crap and I pray the General Assembly of Kentucky has more sense than to fall for it.

No white or black applicants in 8 years? So when was the last time the company hired an employment agency or posted jobs in nearby major cities?

Why is it all these employers think all they need to do is wait for random people to walk in and fill out an application? They think they are McFarmland or something? Employers need to do some foot work to find employee's also and if its a job that isn't in an area with basic amenities they need a living situation setup and possibly assistance for people comming to the job area such as a bus ticket.

The point here is they [/b]NEVER[/b] advertize jobs! The illegals already in their employ bring in [/b]more illegals. I can also tell you that some of the jobs that are on the really large farms do come with a small home on the farm! The higher you move up on the farm, the better your arrangements. But the lowest of the low jobs offer no housing, or dorm style housing... and believe me you do not want to live in dorms!

Even if the claim that they need foreign workers is true, there are programs in place that would allow them to hire these workers. They instead choose illegals so they don't have to pay minimum wage, workers comp or benefits.
