Lawmaker: U.S. Should Pay For Jailed Immigrants

SALEM, Ore. -- A committee in the Oregon House is taking up legislation that would urge Congress to reimburse the state for the cost of keeping illegal immigrants in prison.

The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to take up the nonbinding memorial on Friday.

The memorial is sponsored by Rep. Kim Thatcher of Keizer. It says Oregon spends millions of dollars every year to incarcerate illegal immigrants who commit crimes in the state, and preventing illegal immigration is the responsibility of the federal government.

Rep. Thatcher has supported and voted in favor of a number of good bills in the legislature.

They just granted In state tuition for Illegals,and now they want the government to pay for them when their thrown In jail...

Looks like Oregon would like some more subsidy monies.

Whatever happened to all of the wealth that illegals aliens generate for society? Darn. Did they spend all of that already?

These states that advocate for illegals should get stuck with the whole bill for them

The Oregon House has a 30-30 party split and the Oregon Senate has a slight Democrat majority. So the Dems will propose legislation that helps the illegals, and Republicans like Thatcher will come from the opposite side.

That is why the in-state tuition bills has been advancing, but Thatcher is trying to stand up for the taxpayers of the state and draw more attention to the consequences of illegal immigration.

as long as oregon is a sanctuary state, i say dont give them a damn penny of federal monies
