This subject always hits home with me since I have a relative who has worked construction for years and has complained for years how it's hard to compete with the illegals taking over the industry. Just maybe these jobs will slowly revert back to American citizen workers. If not in Mexifornia (may be too late) but perhaps in some other states.

Check out State of North Carolina DOT - Latino Central in North Carolina.

Are they E-Verifying Contractors employees? Think about all the federal and state funding American Citizens are being cheated out of by greedy employers and undocumented illegal criminal immigrants. And does the local, state, or federal government care about the United States Citizens first?

But as stories of immigration crackdowns cycle through the news, the firm is making a consorted effort at reaching out to the black community. They've been facilitating classes at the Goodwill of Greater Washington sponsored by church groups, government ex-offender programs and other nonprofit groups preparing blacks for a job in construction.
It's about time these greedy employers started to give Americans their jobs back and giving them the resources to do the job!

Yeah right, are we really expected to believe that all those black workers slowly retired? Personally, I more inclined to believe they were quickly replaced.
I agree MW. They were pushed out of their jobs for cheep labor. They were working in the chicken plants making a descent wage but they were undercut by the illegals they had to quit or eventually lost their jobs. The Labor Democrats should be up in arms about the illegal aliens.

Exactly!!! This is what business does when it needs skilled labor. It provides them with training to acquire the skills they need.

I used to work for a stock brokerage and they wanted everybody from the janitors on up to know the rules and regulations so that the company could police itself, and so that the workers would recognize problems when they arose.

They set up an in-house "school" and every employee was required to complete so many basic credit hours. Employees were encouraged to complete as many classes as possible.

When employees interviewed for promotions, that in-house education carried some weight!

This same employer paid for college courses and all classes that could be considered job-related. If you wanted to take a typing class to improve your productivity, they would pay.

Now, this same company (like I said - it is a brokerage) made it through the 80's without losing money in junk bonds, made it through the 90's without investing and losing in the tech sector, and is now not holding any bad mortgage paper.

(Now, they did hire some Indian guys to help bridge the culture gap when they started opening offices in India, but even those guys had graduated from American colleges.)

It is absolutely asinine to keep saying that we need to import labor, skilled or unskilled. What we need is to force business to train American labor.

The economic mess has proven that there really are no jobs that Americans won't do. After all, who did all the jobs before this swarm of illegals came in?

Very true. But, do not overlook the fact that American workers are less likely to install the flashing improperly in the first place, and for several reasons:

They have the education to understand the training they receive in their trade. They are used to the high standards of construction this country demands which are absent in the Third World. And lastly, they take pride in their work instead of just being there for the $$ with the mindset that somebody else can deal with fixing whatever they screwed up.

I am in total agreement that it's encouraging to see Americans once again reclaiming the jobs stolen from them by illegal aliens because it WAS Americans doing those jobs long before illegal aliens were doing them.

azwreath, you are so right. Right after I got out of jail and wrote about what happened to me someone tried to get in touch with me through a web site. I was puzzled at first. I went to Carolyn Hileman's web site (thevoice.name) and there was this character saying that the reason I was losing so many jobs was because of shoddy work. He even had posted a couple of pictures that he said was mine to prove it. But he lied, every job I perform I take pictures and I downloaded a couple of them there and the idiot shut up entirely from that point on. I never heard from him again. I am almost positive that he was the owner of the company that stole that job from me.
I will put my metal work up against any roofers in this country, legal or illegal and I know for a fact that mine will look better. One of my contractors said that I do exquisite copper work and my pictures prove it beyond a doubt.
