Escondido CA plans crackdown on illegal workers E-VERIFY
City plans crackdown on illegal workers

ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- City leaders in Escondido plan to force firms they do business with to verify that their employees are legally allowed to work in the United States.
"This is about making businesses accountable," said Mayor Sam Abed.
On March 23, Abed and the City Council majority are expected to approve a resolution that would require the city and its contractors to use the federal government's E-Verify system to check the immigration status of their employees. The resolution will urge all businesses in town to do the same.
"We will unite this city under the rule of law. We will not be a sanctuary city anymore," Abed said. "If you want to come to this city and play by our rules, we will welcome you. We will support you."
Josh Park and his employees at Al's Towing stay busy towing vehicles for the city. The police department uses the firm to impound vehicles.
"All of our employees have to go through background checks through law enforcement agencies, where they check their driving record and their criminal history," said Park.
If the city passes the resolution, Park, like all city contractors in Escondido, will have to screen his employees with E-Verify. Park says it's a good idea, particularly, with high unemployment.
"I think that jobs should go to people who are here legally, and I think, basically, it's going to happen from city to city," said Park.
Many immigrant rights advocates see the resolution as another divisive attempt to target illegal immigrants and drive them out of the community. Over half of the population in Escondido is Latino.
"They’re trying to kick all Mexicans out," said Rogelio Trujillo, an Escondido resident, who recently became a U.S. citizen. "I don’t think that’s fair. I think they should consider that they’ve always done their part working hard."
In 2006, some members of the City Council made a failed attempt to prohibit renting apartments and houses to illegal immigrants, and in 2008, there was an unsuccessful attempt to pass an ordinance that targeted day-laborers.
"They already tried to pass these laws," said Trujillo. "They didn’t succeed."

Escondido keeps trying...some brave people there in a state where the white flag is pretty much flying.
Every employer should verify their workers. Seems a no-brainer to me especially in a state where unemployment is so high.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Escondido is actually 90% hispanics and if this bill passes, it's a great city to enforce it! Just think about how many Americans can take the jobs back from those who are illegally employed there! This needs to happen in EVERY city in the USA! It's the only thing that will drive the illegals out!<div>"Diversified"*does NOT*mean invading*our Country and forcing their culture and language,**stealing jobs,*using fake ID',s, living on government benefits, and flying their flag over ours! </div>

This resolution is an attempt to "target illegal invaders" and drive them out of the community! So what if over half the population is latino! Does this mean the rule of law can no longer be enforced because it might offend latinos? Does this mean when a city becomes a majority latino, that immigration and other laws no longer apply?
Sure sounds as if that's being implied here!Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Several Cities Make E-Verify Mandatory in Southern California
Posted on February 19, 2011 by Dorian Slaybod
Several cities in Southern California have made E-Verify mandatory for employers. These cities, all East of Los Angeles in Riverside County, are Temecula, Murrietta, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, and Norco. Employers that refuse to follow the new laws become vulnerable to having their business licenses revoked. This has already affected agricultural employers in the area, including several vineyards, who are struggling to find agricultural workers. These laws also come while the Supreme Court is reviewing the validity of similar laws in Arizona, in the case Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting.

While I respect your research findings, I personally live in the next city over from Esco, and I daily witness the hispanic population there. The traffic coming out of Esco in the morning with workers spread out in the surrounding areas is backed up for miles. The opposite direction goes back to Esco during rush hour. That's the cold hard FACT of the ACTUAL hispanic population is Esco! Heck, I can videotape the city for you if you would like! Additionally, the surrounding cities are just as invaded with illegals, Vista, San Marcos, and Oceanside are almost as overrun by them! As much as I hate to admit to it, it is what it is, and getting worse everyday!<div>"Diversified"*does NOT*mean invading*our Country and forcing their culture and language,**stealing jobs,*using fake ID',s, living on government benefits, and flying their flag over ours! </div>

S. California city mulls more immigration scrutiny for contractors as new screening takes hold
By Associated Press, Wednesday, March 23, 6:13 PM
ESCONDIDO, Calif. — A city that has taken numerous steps to crack down on illegal immigration is at it again — this time joining a string of Southern California municipalities that are signing up to tap a federal database aimed at tighter scrutiny of employees’ immigration status.
Escondido’s measure is modest compared to how others have embraced the free E-Verify tool, an online federal database now used voluntarily by employers nationwide. The north San Diego suburb began requiring checks on new city hires earlier this month and would require the same of all city contractors under a proposal before the City Council on Wednesday.
The City Council would also urge — but not require — private businesses to perform enhanced checks on new hires. Lancaster, north of Los Angeles, became the first city in Southern California to require private businesses to use E-Verify in January 2010 and was followed by others including Murrieta, Temecula and Lake Elsinore in the economically battered Inland Empire.
