Republican Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance and Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs are planning on sending a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday which calls for answers regarding mass parole for illegal migrants in the U.S.

The letter was first obtained by the Daily Caller and has not yet been sent to Mayorkas. The letter will also be signed by other Republican lawmakers. In the letter, they mention the DHS announced it would expand parole authority to include the monthly parole of more than 30,000 illegal migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti and Venezuela into the U.S.

The lawmakers mention that Mayorkas testified before the House Judiciary Committee that parole “is judged on an individualized case-by-case basis” and say that the new “mass-parole” of 30,000 migrants is “unlawful.”

They also demand answers to a number of questions and call for a response by January 21, 2023.

“Since the day they took office, President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have purposefully and maliciously eroded our nation’s border security. They have presided over the worst border crisis we’ve seen in decades and more illegal immigration than any administration in recent history. Now, they aim to sidestep Congress and the law by granting parole to hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants,” Vance told the Caller.

“This is a massive gift to the drug cartels and human traffickers that are killing Americans by the day and wreaking havoc on our country. The American people deserve to know why the Biden Administration has taken this action, and more importantly, what legal justification there is to support it. I’m grateful to Congressman Biggs and all my colleagues who have joined me in this effort to hold President Biden accountable for his disastrous border policies. I look forward to a timely response from Secretary Mayorkas,” he added.

Here Are The Questions They Ask In The Letter:

  • From what source does DHS derive its legal authority to parole more than 30,000 monthly migrants into the United States?
  • From what source does DHS derive its legal authority to parole migrants before they reach the United States border?
  • Will the migrants paroled pursuant to this policy be transported into the United States using federal funds?
  • How does this policy “enhance border security”?
  • Under what criteria were the countries Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua selected for this program?

Republican Texas Rep. Pat Fallon introduced articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, accusing the high-ranking Biden appointee of failing to address the crisis on the southern border.

Fallon filed the resolution on Jan. 3, the first day of the 118th Congress, but due to the drawn-out speakership race, the resolution did not go through until later. Fallon said Mayorkas has “abdicated his duties” as head of the DHS and that he must be removed from his position. The resolution has picked up support from a number of other lawmakers.

(DAILY CALLER OBTAINED) — … by Henry Rodgers

“Secretary Mayorkas testified under oath that parole is ‘judged on an individualized case-by-case basis’ but I have seen no evidence to support this claim. Instead, his department is abusing the parole authority to mass-release hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens into the country. The department’s latest announcement reveals that it will continue to proceed and even accelerate this abuse as parole grants will increase by 33% from just last month,” Biggs told the Caller.

“It’s unclear where the department derives legal authority to parole groups of this size and how this policy change enhances border security. As usual, the department has some explaining to do and I’m grateful for Senator Vance’s partnership in this effort,” Biggs added.
Other lawmakers who signed onto the letter include Sens. Eric Schmitt, Rick Scott, Josh Hawley, Ted Budd, Ted Cruz, Bill Cassidy, Mike Braun, Cynthia Lummis and Ron Johnson in the Senate.

In the House, Reps Brian Babin, Tom Tiffany, Diana Harshbarger, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Eli Crane, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Tom McClintock, Warren Davidson, Michael Cloud, Andy Ogles, Ken Buck, Matt Rosendale, Jim Banks, Dan Bishop, Debbie Lesko, Ralph Norman, Eric Burlison, Ronny Jackson, Paul Gosar, Lance Gooden, Randy Weber, and Beth Van Duyne signed on.

The Caller contacted DHS about the letter to which they did not immediately respond.
