WASHINGTON, July 28 FAIR-condemns-murder

WASHINGTON, July 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the nation's oldest and largest immigration reform organization, condemns the brutal attack against Luis Ramirez that took place in Port Carbon, Pennsylvania, on July 12. The following statement was issued by Dan Stein, president of FAIR:

"The Federation for American Immigration Reform has long taken the position that this nation must maintain an open, vigorous, and civil debate about our immigration policies.
While the immigration debate may be contentious at times, all people - regardless of race, ethnicity, or immigration status - must always be treated with the respect and dignity to which all human beings are entitled.

"There is no place in the immigration policy debate for people who want to act out their bigotry toward anyone. The attack against Mr. Ramirez is a reprehensible act for which his murderers must be held criminally accountable.

"The acts of criminals, and people on the fringes of American political life, in no way reflect the views of the overwhelming majority of people who legitimately believe that U.S. immigration policies need to be enforced in the public interest."
