HEMET, Calif., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- A California husband and wife are accused of pretending they were federal immigration agents to trick an illegal into leaving the country, an indictment said.

Gregory Raymond Denny Jr., 38, and his wife Karen Evon Denny, 52, allegedly tricked an undocumented immigrant into taking a plane by to her native Philippines, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

The Hemet couple handcuffed the victim, Cherriebelle Magada Gabalonos Hibbard and told her they were enforcing a warrant issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the report said.

A former bounty hunter, Gregory Denny allegedly told Hibbard he was a U.S. marshal, showed her a badge and credentials, and took her to San Diego's Lindbergh Field to be deported.

The Denny's reportedly went to Hibbard's home in Hemet to conduct the ruse, the newspaper said.
