JAYSON LARSON: Nation watched as story unfolded

    By Jayson Larson

Athens has seen its fair share of nationwide, and tragic, news.

Over the last decade, it has seen slain peace officers and a space shuttle exploding overhead.

Nearly a decade ago, a young Athens woman was attacked and nearly killed by a homeless man in broad daylight near a busy Manhattan intersection. The phone calls from New York media outlets was never-ending, with some television stations trying to hire local reporters to knock on her parent’s door on Christmas morning a month after the attack.

And then came the news Monday: a white 13-year-old Athens Middle School student alleged she was attacked by 21 Hispanic students. The reason? She brought a history class project to school declaring, “If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration.â€

Jayson Larson forgot one aspect of this. The boys DID TAKE HER SCHOOL PROJECT AND DID TEAR IT UP IN ORDER TO INTIMIDATE HER TO NOT USE HER FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS. NOW, what she is did is absolutely wrong, but let's not negate the fact the they aren't victims here, the are perpetrators themselves and should be punished to some degree and they need a school meeting to make both points valid.

I saw the video of a bunch of kids in the hall, she was walking with another girl and turned around (someone must have called her name), there was a large group moving fast towards her when she went off camera. Then I saw the boy with the paper running away laughing, go through a door.

    What happened off camera?

They should all be punished. Her punishment would be greater for having lied, there was no reason to lie about something like this. None.
