Suspected illegal immigrant arrested in ID theft

A suspected illegal immigrant from Mexico was arrested for allegedly using the driver’s license of a Northglenn woman who died in 1999.

Antonieta Vazquez-Angulo, 30, is suspected of using the identity of Tamara Trujillo who died in a traffic accident in Vega, Texas, on July 19, 1999, according to Northglenn police Sgt. Steve Garrow.

"We got a call from Rick Archer, an investigator with State Motor Vehicle, that they were receiving information about the use of the driver’s license for a woman that died," Garrow said.

He said Thornton Detective Terri Northern traced the woman to a café where she was working in Commerce City.

He said during a pat down, they also found a Mexican identification and it’s believed Trujillo’s identity had been used since 2002.

Vazquez-Angulo was booked in the Adams County Detention Center for investigation of criminal impersonation and forgery.

Garrow said Vazquez-Angulo lives in Commerce City, but Northglenn has jurisdiction because the driver’s license was issued at the Northglenn Motor Vehicle office.

"When we talked to her, she said she bought Trujillo’s birth certificate and personal information for $5,000 from an unknown Mexican man," Garrow said.

"Apparently they got a copy of the birth certificate from the state right after Trujillo died and used it to get a driver’s license in her name."
