A Mexican national living in Rantoul who fled to Mexico in 2004 after allegedly killing a Buckley teen in a drunk driving accident has been captured.
Derando Nunez, 24, is accused of killing Zachary Mingee, 15, when his car plowed into the rear of a tractor Mingee was riding on at Buckley.

Nunez is being held in a Mexico City pending a judge's decision on sending him back to Iroquois County to stand trial for reckless homicide. That decision won't come for two or three months, Iroquois County State's Attorney James Devine said Friday. He may not be sent back at all. The judge could opt to simply release Nunez if he finds his extradition to the U.S. runs afoul of Mexican law, Devine said.

Nunez allegedly ran from the scene of the accident and hid for a time in nearby fields. He was later arrested and tests showed that was driving under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, police reported. He was jailed pending trial, but he posted $6,000 bail on $250,000 bond and fled to Mexico.
