Amid blistering heat Thursday, FBI agents unearthed from a makeshift grave in South San Antonio the skeletal remains of a person believed to have fallen victim to the Texas Mexican Mafia.

FBI officials kept a tight lid on details of the excavation, but law enforcement sources confirmed the remains of one man were found.

It was at least the fourth dig in the past two years borne from investigations of the gang, and the third that netted human remains. Among the fruitful excavations were one last November on a ranch near Kyote in Atascosa County and one in October 2003 in the 22000 block of Trumbo Sands in far South Bexar County.

Thursday's digging began at about 7 a.m. on empty lots adjacent to a home in the 700 block of Gillette Boulevard, less than two blocks from Gillette Elementary School. About 3:30 p.m., FBI agents could be seen breaking down portable shades and tents that shielded them from the heat. They left shortly afterward.

Before departing, the Bexar County medical examiner's office retrieved the remains. They are to be examined today, officials said.

FBI spokesman Rene Salinas declined to comment on the investigation Thursday because it is ongoing.

Sources said the property is linked to Jesse "Chuy" Ramirez, a gang captain who â€â€
