THIBODAUX -- State Police has issued an arrest warrant for an illegal immigrant suspected of being responsible for a fatal hit-and-run last month, Troop C spokesman Gilbert Dardar said today.

The warrant for Santiago Osirio Rodriguez' arrest, which was issued Friday evening, came just four days after State Police forensic investigators linked a white 1998 Ford Escort registered to Rodriguez to the death of 55-year-old Dwain Carrell on Dec. 26.

Carrell was struck and killed as he picked up debris across the road from his home on La. 3235 in Galliano.

Rodriguez, 31, of 145 Terrebonne Lane, is wanted for felony hit-and-run, operating a vehicle without a lawful presence in the United States and no driver's license.

The arrest warrant for Rodriguez will be executed with full extradition powers, meaning regardless of where he is arrested in the United States he will be transported back to Lafourche Parish.

Anyone with information about Rodriguez' whereabouts is asked to call State Police Troop C at 857-3680.
