A Des Moines man is being held for immigration officials after being arrested Monday on charges of assault or display of a dangerous weapon and interference with official acts.

Miguel Hernandez, 29, of 1347 York St., reportedly became irate when he was asked to turn down his music at 2:05 a.m.

Police said Hernandez picked up a beer bottle and attempted to strike Kristen Russell, 29, of the same address. Officers said he chased Russell with the bottle, still trying to hit her with it. She avoided injury by locking herself in a bathroom.

Officers were called to the York Street address and found Hernandez hiding in a closet on top of a pile of clothes. Officers ordered him out of the closet three times but Hernandez just stared at them, according to reports. When police tried to help him out of the closet, he went limp.

Police said he twisted away from an officer and struck the arm of a wooden chair by the closet door with his face. Hernandez was taken to the Polk County Jail after being treated at Broadlawns Medical Center.
