Federal Agents Arrest 35 Illegal Aliens

Federal Agents Arrest 35 Illegal Aliens

Raleigh — Federal immigration officials said Friday they had arrested 43 illegal aliens, including 35 with criminal records, during a two-day sweep in Wake, Johnston and Harnett counties.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said that 13 of the people arrested Wednesday and Thursday had been charged previously with driving under the influence, four had convictions for taking indecent liberties with children and one person had convictions for kidnapping, robbery and driving under the influence.

ICE spokesman Richard Rocha said the two-day effort was part of Operation Safe Streets, which began in April 2006 in Charlotte. The Fugitive Operations Team from ICE's Raleigh office carried out the sweep, the first in the Triangle, the agency said.

"Operation Secure Streets is an ongoing ICE initiative primarily designed to safeguard the public by identifying, arresting, and placing into removal proceedings individuals who pose a threat to the community and who have no legal right to remain in the country," ICE said in its statement.

The people arrested are from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, and Honduras, ICE said.

Big deal, I could point out more than 43 criminal aliens in the Raleigh area on any given morning. I'd almost bet my last dollar a quick trip to 4 or 5 landscaping and construction operations around Raleigh would net more more than 43. Are we supposed to be impressed?

Don't get me wrong, 43 criminal alien deportations is better than none, however, it's still far from being what I'd call a serious effort.

Can you imagine, out of 13 people, child molesters, drunken driving, kidnappers, robbers. What the hell else???
Oh yeah, these are just hardworking people coming to better themselves. Yeah, right, they're sharpening their skills at CRIME!
And Kennedy and McCain have the guts to try to shove an amnesty down our throats!

I think I could swing a cat in Raleigh and hit more than 43.

They must not be that alert or they are being too selective and only getting the ones they know are criminals and ignoring the others that haven't proven themselves yet.

Right Newmexican. Here they like to wait until AFTER they've proven it. Can't take any chances on upsetting El Pueblo.
