Man convicted in salvage yard shootingAssociated PressLAGRANGE, Ind. - Jurors convicted a Yemeni national of attempted murder charges for firing an assault-style rifle at a sport utility vehicle in which his former boss was riding.

The LaGrange Superior Court deliberated for just 30 minutes Thursday before finding Adel Yazidi, 35, guilty on all three counts of attempted murder.

Yazidi was arrested in March 2004 after authorities said he fired several shots at the SUV outside a salvage yard near Howe, about 40 miles east of South Bend. No one inside the SUV was injured.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Greg Kenner argued that Yazidi was angry at Saleh Ali Obad, his former employer at the salvage yard, for pursuing charges that Yazidi was responsible for a $30,000 forgery.

Judge George Brown scheduled sentencing for Feb. 9. Yazidi faces 20 years to 50 years in prison on each count.

Yazidi said previously in court that he was born in Yemen and had lived in the United States for more than a decade without U.S. citizenship. LaGrange County authorities expect federal immigration officials to seek his deportation.
