HOMEWOOD, Alabama --- Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain said this afternoon on a stop in Homewood that he wants to empower states such as Alabama and Arizona in their efforts to curtail illegal immigration.

"I do not agree with the federal government suing Alabama or suing Arizona," Cain said.

Both states have passed tough laws cracking down on illegal immigrants. "Enforce the law," Cain said. "Empower the states to do what the federal government won't do."

Cain said border security would be his priority on the immigration issue.

"First, secure the border for real, not just talk about it," he said. "Promote the path to citizenship that's already there."

Cain stopped by the Alabama Republican Party office in Homewood this afternoon, paid his $10,000 qualifying fee and submitted more than 500 signatures to qualify to be placed on the ballot in Alabama in the 2012 election.

Cain had campaign stops this morning in Anniston and Talladega, then spoke to several hundred tea party activists gathered for the Rainy Day Patriots Rally at Sweet Bones restaurant at the Summit.

After his stop at the Alabama Republican office, he was planning to meet with Gov. Robert Bentley in Montgomery.

Every state should work hand in hand with the Feds in removing illegals. That being said the Feds need to deport the illegals found by the states. Also the Federal Gov needs to stop stonewalling State immigration Laws. Illegal is illegal and they are criminals. Time they are deported once and for all.
