    Editor's Note: New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced Saturday that undocumented immigrants in New York will be able to obtain a second class of driver's licenses.     Governor Eliot Spitzer took a big step backwards in his policy on driver’s licenses. His introduction of a tiered license system will stitch a scarlet letter on undocumented immigrants instead of drawing them out of the shadows.

    Spitzer, with Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff, yesterday announced that three different classes of licenses will be available to New Yorkers. The license that will be offered to undocumented immigrant New Yorkers will be labeled “not for U.S. government purposes.â€

    Mr Spitzer has a surprise coming, because i happen to know there are plenty of people waiting to slap a temporary injunction on any attempt to give any form of driving privilages to Illegal Aliens in any form. Us New Yorkers are not going to put up with this

    If the majority of New Yorkers (90%?) were against giving licenses to illegals, how did he let down New York?

    This author is so out of touch with what the MAJORITY of New Yorkers want, it's not even funny. A license is a license no? They should still be able to drive and buy insurance right? So what's the problem?

    The "undocumented" are NOT New Yorkers, they are ILLEGAL aka should not even be here aka have no rights, etc. They should rightfully be deported.

    It's all spin.

    Spitzer is trying to save his position and career with the REAL New Yorkers yet tell the illegals he is with them.

    The OBL is trying to shame him into stepping back into his hard stance for legal drivers licenses.

    It Spitzer doesn't want to be recalled like Davis in CA, he will have to go with the 3-tier idea. But it sure will register them and identifiy them if they go for it.
