Kyl, McCain question ICE's snub of Arpaio

Kyl, McCain question ICE's snub of Arpaio

Arizona's two Republican senators are asking Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to explain why controversial Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was largely cut out of the federal program that previously allowed his office to enforce U.S. immigration laws on the streets.

Now, Arpaio's deputies have permission to do so only in the jails.

In a letter dated Oct. 16, Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl request details on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement review process as well as "the rationale for terminating the Task Force Model in Maricopa County and the criteria that made the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office ineligible to continue in the Task Force Model."
In an e-mailed statement, Sara Kuban, a Homeland Security spokeswoman, said the agency would respond directly to the senators, but told The Arizona Republic that Arpaio's ongoing crime-suppression sweeps "do not align with ICE priorities to arrest, detain and remove serious criminal aliens."

Those sweeps frequently net what Arpaio critics consider small-time offenders.

"MCSO has been unwilling to coordinate with local jurisdictions while continuing to flaunt a disregard for ICE priorities under the Task Force Model," Kuban added.

The only ones disregaurding in this case is the Fed . Gov .
The priorities are to arrest detain and deport all illegal aliens .
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio flaunts nothing but that if you are in this country illegally you will be arrested . No different than you drink and drive you will be arrested .
Thank you Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio . We need more like you .
Kyl, McCain you both are treaters to our nation conserning the illegal invasion .
But I have demanded an investigation and that the Sheriffs department get full authorization back immediately .
Glad they are listening . About time they did . Arizona voters are getting PO'd at these two clowns .

Arpio follows the law, Janet doesn't.

Sheriff Joe is a man with integrty, courage and a partiot.

Janet and others in this administration are criminal elites that seek to stop anyone that actually enforces the law ( unless the law punishes the American people).

They do not have the right to change the laws passed by congress, their job is to enforce the laws passed by congress.....there should be no priorities all laws should be enforced.

Translation: Hello uniformed voters this is John McCain and Jon Kyl we are RINO's up for re-election and we need to bolster our non existent tough on immigration stance. We are really open border pro amnesty sellouts but if we campaigned on what we actually believe we would lose our re-election bid.

Yep! Too bad we can't get some REAL American politicians to hound DHS over this until they give it up and give Joe back his authority.

Letter From Senator McCain To Secretary Napolitano
    October 16, 2009

    Janet Napolitano
    Secretary
    Department of Homeland Security
    Washington, DC 20528

    Dear Secretary Napolitano:

Recent reports regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) efforts to standardize Memorandums of Agreements (MOAs) with participating 287(g) jurisdictions have raised several questions. The majority of 287(g) partnerships across the state of Arizona have proven effective and it is our hope they remain successful.

Please provide an explanation of the review process ICE undertook in determining the new agreements and the possible implications the streamlined agreements will have for 287(g) partners in Arizona. Please explain the reasons for the differing agreements among the six participating agencies within the state. In addition, please provide the rationale for terminating the Task Force Model in Maricopa County and the criteria that made the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office ineligible to continue in the Task Force Model.

Thank you in advance for your timely response to this inquiry.
