Felony sex offender and 43-year-old Guatemalan national Osmar Acevedo, convicted in Los Angeles County of acts with a child and previously deported, was recently caught attempting to illegally re-enter the U.S. through the southwest border in a mountainous area outside Calexico, California.

Government officials told Breitbart News that records reveal convictions in 2008 on five felony counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child, including offenses with a child under 14 years of age, with a child 14 or 15 years of age, and offender 10 or more years older than victim.

Convicted for sex crimes out of Los Angeles, Acevedo was sentenced to serve just three years in prison for his sex crimes. Whether he served the full three years or was released early is unknown.

Risk assessment for Acevedo, according to the California Registered Sex Offender database, is STATIC 99 with a score of 2 on a scale of -3 to 10. A level 2 offender has a recidivism risk of 5.0, which is considered a moderate-low risk of sexual re-offense.

Acevedo now faces repeat deportation proceedings. His most recent prior, known deportation occurred in 1996.

An agent representing U.S. Customs and Border Protection told Breitbart News that Acevedo was in the custody of U.S. Marshalls on Monday, awaiting sentencing in Imperial County.

"This is an example as to why border patrol agents continually carry out their daily duties securing our nation's borders. If it were not for the alert professionals on the border, this sex offender would freely move about our communities," National Border Patrol Council Union Spokesperson Gabe Pacheco told Breitbart News.
