ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Two men have been charged with trafficking cocaine at two Border Patrol checkpoints in southern New Mexico, the U.S. District Attorney for the state said.

Francisco Alberto Guerrero-Rodriguez, 20 and Noe Lucero Ceniceros, 28, both Mexican nationals, were found to be in the country illegally.

Last week, Guerrero-Rodriguez was arrested after Border Patrol agents confiscated 19.4 pounds of cocaine from his vehicle.

The drugs were found during an inspection at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 54 south of Alamogordo. The seven bundles of cocaine were hidden in an after-market compartment above the gas tank that was accessed through a trap door under the vehicle’s back seat, authorities said.

Lucero- Ceniceros was arrested the next day when agents seized 19 pounds of cocaine from his vehicle. That search happened at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 25 near Hatch. The cocaine was found in a hidden compartment accessible through a trapdoor that agents accessed after removing the vehicle’s rear passenger compartment.

If convicted, both men could face sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison.
